Chapter 6

Respecting the Innate Wisdom

The more we respect the innate wisdom (higher self, witness, source, or whatever you wish to call it), the more it will instruct us on what to do and the more powerful it becomes.

The term "innate wisdom" is one I'm using because it probably has less connotations than many others. We could use the terms, higher self, witness, source, innate intelligence, awareness, and many others according cultural or academic background. What I am in fact referring to it is that innate consciousness in the body that we have observed every day of our lives keeping the system going, healing, harmonizing, and attempting to create a healthy situation.

I also refer to it later in this book as a state of awareness. I will demonstrate that it appears to be contained in the heart complex in the chest. We talk of some people being more aware that others. Some seem to have a natural tendency to be able to trust their intuition more, heal faster, and have an intuitive understanding of what is best for their body. Those people who do not seem to have as great an awareness are often people who come from a background that has discouraged this inner communication with the body. It is very sad that this has happened and so many have lost contact with that very real part of themselves.

I have found that when a patient undergoes a series of BodyTalk treatments, their level of the awareness rises quickly. It seems that when their innate wisdom is consulted directly as it is with the BodyTalk system, that awareness tends to rise to the occasion and supply the needed feedback. At some level the BodyTalk balancing of the system helps to put to the patient back into that natural state of awareness, thereby making them more responsive to treatment in future sessions. The body seems to learn the language of communication at this deep level with the practitioner. This enables the body to make more sophisticated links for healing and balancing the system faster.

One of the most common side effects of a BodyTalk treatment is that patients often notice an increase of well-being and general harmony with their body and mind. This state of well-being is subjective in nature but very real to the patient. Once the patient starts experiencing this stronger harmonious relationship with their body, then the innate wisdom is more able to maintain better health in the future.

I have also noticed that patients I have treated say one year ago and have returned for a different health problem, tend to respond much faster the second time around because the original BodyTalk sessions helped to re-establish the relationship with awareness which is still there a year later.
